U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Members
How CEU Events handles your GBCI credits — including self-reporting, where to find your GBCI course number on your certificate, and how to set up your account.
🧑🎓 This article is for Attendees who are USGBC/GBCI members.
If you're a USGBC member maintaining LEED credentials or other GBCI certifications, CEU Events gives you everything you need to track your continuing education credits — but unlike some other organizations, USGBC follows a self-reporting model, where you submit your own credits to GBCI using the certificate you receive from each event.
About USGBC and GBCI credits
USGBC members complete continuing education credits that are recognized as GBCI credits — Green Business Certification Inc. is the credentialing body that manages LEED and other USGBC professional credentials. When you see "GBCI credit" or "GBCI-approved" on a course, that's the same as USGBC continuing education.
How CEU Events handles GBCI credits
Unlike some other organizations (such as AIA), USGBC does not require providers to report attendance directly. Instead, USGBC follows a self-reporting model: you earn the credit by attending an approved event, and you submit it yourself to GBCI using documentation from the event.
What this means for you:
- You don't need to enter a USGBC or GBCI membership number in your CEU Events profile — there's no automatic reporting tied to it.
- You self-report your GBCI credits using the Certificate of Completion CEU Events generates after each event.
- Your GBCI course number — needed when you self-report — is included on the certificate.
How to set up your account for GBCI tracking
You don't need to enter a membership number, but you can flag your profile so your account is set up for tracking GBCI-eligible activity:
- Sign in to your CEU Events account at www.ceuevents.com.
- Update your profile by selecting Architect, then GBCI.
- Save your profile.
For step-by-step guidance, see Add or Update Your Memberships and License Numbers.
How to self-report your credits to GBCI
After attending a GBCI-approved event on CEU Events:
- Download your Certificate of Completion from your CEU Events account. See Retrieve Your Certificate of Completion.
- Find your GBCI course number on one of the pages within the certificate.
- Submit the credit to GBCI through your USGBC/GBCI member portal, using the course number and event details from your certificate.
💡 Tip: Keep your CEU Events certificates organized by reporting period — they're your record of attendance and your source for course numbers when self-reporting. Filtering and exporting certificates in batches makes reporting periods more manageable. See Filter and Export Your Certificates.

Best practices
- Note the GBCI course number when you self-report. It's on the certificate — saving it alongside your reporting record makes future verification easier.
- Batch your self-reporting. Instead of reporting one event at a time, use Filter and Export Your Certificates to pull all your GBCI-eligible certificates for a reporting period and submit them together.
- Confirm a course is GBCI-approved before registering. Check the course details or the GBCI-approved event list linked above to verify approval.
Troubleshooting
- You can't find the GBCI course number on your certificate. It's on one of the pages within the certificate (multi-page format). Check each page. If you still can't locate it, contact CEU Events support.
- Your credit isn't showing up in your GBCI transcript. Because USGBC is a self-reporting model, the credit won't appear automatically just because you attended the event — you need to submit it yourself through GBCI.
- You attended a course that wasn't GBCI-approved. Not every course on CEU Events is GBCI-approved. Verify approval on the course detail page or the list of GBCI-approved events before registering.
- You're not sure if a course qualifies for a specific credit category. Check the course details on the registration page, or contact CEU Events support before registering.
