Use the Attendance Recording Guide

Access and share the event-specific Attendance Recording Guide so attendees can record their attendance and retrieve their CEU credits.

🎓 This article is for instructors.

The Attendance Recording Guide is a per-event PDF document that walks attendees through recording their attendance and retrieving their CEU certificates. Each event in CEU Events has its own Guide, generated dynamically with that event's specific details — including the Event Code. The Guide is one of two key tools you'll use to capture attendance, alongside the CEU Events Paperless Attendance Slide displayed during your presentation.

You'll use the Guide in two main situations:

  • In-person events: Print copies to pass around the room so attendees can record their attendance, especially walk-ins who didn't pre-register.
  • Post-event follow-up: Email the Guide to attendees who didn't register prior or during the event but still need credit and or certificate.

💡 Tip: For attendees reaching out after the event, send the Attendance Recording Guide. The Guide is a complete instructional document that includes the code in context, making it more professional and easier for attendees to follow.

Before you begin
  • You must be logged in with an instructor account.
  • The event you need the Guide for must already be scheduled in CEU Events.
  • For in-person events: have access to a printer if you plan to distribute physical copies.
How to access the Attendance Recording Guide
  1. Sign in to www.ceuevents.com using your instructor account credentials.
  2. Click on the Events menu.
  3. Locate the event you need the Guide for and click into it.
  4. Click the Attendance Recording Guide hyperlink on the event page. A PDF is generated specifically for that event.
  5. Download, print, or share the PDF as needed.
How to use the Guide for different event formats
In-person events

For face-to-face events — especially those likely to have walk-ins who haven't pre-registered:

  1. Print 2-3 copies of the Attendance Recording Guide before your event.
  2. During the event, briefly explain the steps to attendees who haven't pre-registered.
  3. Pass the printed Guide around the room, or place it at a check-in table for attendees to reference.
  4. The Guide walks attendees through scanning the QR code on the Paperless Attendance Slide (or visiting www.ceuevents.com/attendance directly), entering the Event Code, and signing in or creating a CEU Events account to confirm attendance.
Post-event follow-up

If an attendee reaches out after the event saying they attended but didn't register:

  1. Access the Attendance Recording Guide for that specific event from your account.
  2. Download the PDF.
  3. Email the Guide to the attendee with a brief message confirming they attended and that they can record their attendance using the Guide.

📝 Note: Attendees who didn't record during the event must complete the recording process within the applicable reporting window for their credit to be reported. See Attendance Reporting Requirements for details on reporting timelines.

What attendees see and do with the Guide

When an attendee uses the Guide, they:

  1. Visit www.ceuevents.com/attendance (or scan the QR code on the Paperless Attendance Slide if they're at the event).
  2. Enter the unique Event Code for the event.
  3. Sign in with their CEU Events attendee account — or create one if they don't have one yet.
  4. Confirm their attendance.
  5. Retrieve their certificate instantly. All applicable credit reporting is processed within the next business day.

⚠️ Important: Many attendees don't realize they need a CEU Events account to retrieve their certificate. Mention this clearly during your event so they're prepared — they can create an account quickly during the recording process, but it's a common point of confusion if it isn't explained upfront.

Best practices
  • Generate the Guide before your event. Don't wait until the day-of — pull it up ahead of time, save the PDF, and print copies if needed.
  • Print 2-3 copies for in-person events. Even if most attendees pre-registered, walk-ins and last-minute registrants benefit from having printed Guides to reference. The person helping you coordinate the event will appreciate having this document after you leave.
  • Send the Guide instead of the Event Code for post-event requests. The Guide is a complete instructional document — sharing it reduces back-and-forth and gives attendees everything they need in one place.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Guide before presenting. Knowing what attendees will see makes it easier to walk them through the process during your event.
  • Explain the account requirement clearly. Let attendees know upfront they'll need a CEU Events account to retrieve their certificate — and that they can create one in just a few seconds during the recording process.

Troubleshooting

  • An attendee says the Event Code in the Guide isn't working. Confirm the event has already taken place and that the attendee is entering the code at www.ceuevents.com/attendance. Each event has a unique code, so check that the Guide they're using is for the correct event.
  • An attendee can't create an account during the recording process. They may need to use a different email address than one already associated with another account. Direct them to contact CEU Events support for help.
  • Still having trouble? Contact CEU Events support and we'll help you get your attendees credited.
