Credit Reporting for AIA, IDCEC, and Other Associations
How CEU Events automatically reports your earned credits to applicable organizations — and what to do if something doesn't match.
🧑🎓 This article is for attendees.
CEU Events automatically reports your earned credits to the applicable organizations once all requirements for an event are completed. This article explains how the reporting process works, when to expect credits to appear, and what to do if something doesn't match.
How credit reporting works
When you attend a CEU event, your credit is reported automatically to the applicable organizations for that course — provided all prerequisites for the event have been met. Depending on the event, prerequisites may include:
- Being marked as Attended by the instructor.
- Completing any required quiz for the course (if applicable).
- Recording your attendance using the Event Code provided by the instructor (if applicable). See Record Your Attendance with the Event Code.
Once these are complete, CEU Events submits your credit to the appropriate organizations by the end of the next business day.
Examples of organizations CEU Events reports to include:
- American Institute of Architects (AIA)
- Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC)
The specific organizations recognized for a course are listed on the certificate of completion — typically on the additional pages of the multi-page PDF.
Provide accurate membership and license information
The single most important step you can take to ensure accurate credit reporting is to keep your memberships and licenses up to date in your CEU Events profile.
- Enter your membership and license numbers correctly. Even small typos can prevent matching with the reporting organization.
- Update credentials when they change. Renewed licenses, new memberships, or changed numbers should be reflected in your profile right away.
You can update this information anytime through Update Your Profile Information and specifically through Add or Update Your Memberships and License Numbers.
⚠️ Important: Incorrect or missing membership details may prevent credit from being reported. Make sure your information is accurate before attending events so your credits route correctly from the start.
Why credit might not be reported
A few common reasons credit may not qualify for an event you attended:
- Your membership or license number was entered incorrectly. Double-check the number in your profile against what your association has on file.
- You completed some but not all required steps. This could mean you didn't fully record your attendance, the instructor hasn't yet marked you as Attended, or a required quiz wasn't completed.
- You took the same course within its active lifecycle. Most courses have a refresh interval — taking the same course again within that period typically doesn't generate new credit.
How to check the status of your credit
If you're not sure why a credit isn't appearing, look for a Note under the dashboard in your CEU Events account. This section provides an explanation of any issue and points you toward the next step.
Best practices
- Confirm your credentials are accurate before attending events. Membership and license numbers are the matching keys for credit reporting — get them right upfront.
- Verify your name format is consistent. Many organizations match by name as well as number. Use the same format ("First Middle Last," for example) across your CEU Events account and your association memberships.
- Allow time for processing. Credits report by the end of the next business day, but it may take additional time for the association itself to reflect them in your record.
- Check the Note section on your event if a credit hasn't appeared after a reasonable wait. The system often tells you exactly what's needed to resolve the issue.
Troubleshooting
- You attended an event but credit hasn't been reported after a couple of business days. First, confirm you were marked as Attended (check the event in your account and see if 'Download Certificate button is there). Second, verify your membership or license number is correct. Third, look for a Note on the event for any specific issue.
- You see a "Note" on your event that you don't understand. The Note explains what's preventing credit from reporting. If it isn't clear, contact CEU Events support with the event details and we'll help.
- Your credit was reported but your association doesn't reflect it yet. Some associations take additional time to process incoming credits on their end. Allow 1-2 weeks. If it still hasn't appeared after that, contact your association directly.
